He was silent and blew off competitor Greg Jamison that violent crime was rising in Sioux Falls. In fact he got the now Corvette convertible driving retired police chief Barthel to agree with him.

He said it wasn’t an issue.

It was an issue. Mike ignored it, but now all of sudden with a Wednesday hearing on petition drives is looming, Mike wants to change the dialog that he is being tough on crime and meth.

Bahahaha!

Violent crime has been increasing in Sioux Falls for the past 4 years at least, so now why all of sudden, you care. Empty suit. Blowheart. Also, if you care so much why give the FOP a lousy raise? (you know, the people who have to actually battle this issue)

Want to fight meth use? Fight poverty! Promote living wages, promote good jobs. Pay and train our police force well.

So what are you doing Mike? Holding press conferences like you care, pretending to cry. Thats it.

  1. Mayor Law & Order who has a police force working without a contract. That’ll work wonders in fighting crime.

  2. It’s a smoke screen steering attention away from the Wednesday hearing. What happens when someone shows up to city hall with a witness on Thursday asking for the proper petition form?

  3. Money Magazine came out with best places to live. Before Huether, Sioux Falls was number one. Now, we’re number 35.

  4. Sioux Falls has indoor swimming/tennis and an EC for rodeos. Soon, there will be a new city hall. There’s later plans for a hotel at the golf course and shopping in the railroad yards. How come we’re not number one? Is is meth? No, it’s the debt and low bond rating.

  5. The rising crime rate in Sioux Falls and his fight to prevent the police from getting a 3 percent raise will be part of MMM’s legacy.

  6. Wait till the heroin epidemic hits. I knew a cop who said that 5-10 years ago you never even heard of anyone finding heroin in town or in the area unless it was someone passing through. Now he says he sees it weekly. People have too much time on their hands and not enough work. Idle hands are the devil’s playground.

  7. It goes back to my comment about fighting poverty and living wages. While we are building mega complexes to house the homeless, feed them for free, and cracking down on drug offenders, what are we doing to prevent people from starting meth to begin with?

“Idle hands are the devil’s playground.”

Exactly, when people make a decent wage for decent work, they don’t look for escapes like meth from their poverty wage jobs.

I have told the council and mayor several times, we have a wage issue in this town, and until we properly address it we are just swatting flies.

  8. Meth is a problem all through America for reasons I don’t fully understand. However, it is very serious. It changes personality creating violent people. I am opposed to wasting our resources fighting marijuana when we should be spending it on meth and other highly dangerous drugs.
