I could go on and on about my opposition to Mr. Self-interest, but if you want a repeat of Huether, Jim’s your man.
Notice on his website he only mentions ONE item from the big three, Transparency, Affordable Housing and Crime (he says something about safety). Like I said, running as Huether Part II won’t bode well.
He is a a Huether clone and was a rubber stamp the entire time he served on the city council. If you embrace spending and debt, he is your candidate!
But “safety” could just mean more yield signs, too..
As long as most of the crime happens within the core of the city, I am afraid that no establishment candidate, like Mr. Entenman, is going to seriously address the crime issue in this town.
First of all, they don’t have too, because the base of their support will come from outside of the core and talking about crime would only destroy the political narrative of “Boom Town” which establishment candidates like Mr. Entenman are dependent upon to maintain their political base and help promote its economic results primarily for the few or elite, however; and the fact that he uses a word like “safety” is demonstrative of his attempt to speak code to crime, but an unwillingness at the same time to actually mention it, so as to not offend the current Mayor and his base, and in so doing placing into question Mr. Entenman’s long term commitment to doing anything about crime in this town….
On his website is also talks about “quality of life issues,” which I quess is code for affordable housing too, but there again his unwillingness to mention the real issue at hand, thus questions his true commitment or acknowledgement to the issue of affordable housing in this town.
The mere code speak of his campaign in turn challenges the whole idealism of transparency itself, and in its absence of being mentioned further indicts as to whether his candidacy or leadership would offer much more to that political virtue in the future….
We need a mayoral candidate who will “Get Back to the Basics in 2018″….. Less ribbon cuttings and instead cutting to the issues that matter like fighting crime, establishing affordable housing, and living wages…. and also plowing and sweeping our streets once again….
I also heard that Erickson is now probably all in on the mayor race. Word was she was waiting for Entenman to make a move.
I am also hearing Huether is angling for Governor, I’m still not so sure, he would get creamed.
I think the mayoral race will come down to an Erickson and Jamison runoff. And if I was a betting man, I would give the edge to Erickson.
She has never lost an election. The GOP likes her. They are always showcasing her and she has played a smart game by making credible overtures towards the anti establishment crowd in this town over the Administration Building issue and her support of the SOS position. Plus, she is Vinatieri’s kid sister and didn’t her husband date January Jones while at RHS?…. Oh yes, Hollywood with substance, the perfect mix of a successful candidate….
Plus, I question if the Dems will matter, absent being an important swing vote, in the 2018 mayoral race. If Weiland, Anderson, and Hildebrand all run, I question if any of them can make it to the assumed run-off. Absent Weiland and Hildebrand, I could conceive Anderson making it to the run-off, or Hildebrand making it to the run-off absent Weiland and Anderson, but neither Anderson or Hildebrand would be able, in my assessment,t to sway another of the establishment/pro-business crowd to their side to win like Huether did in 2010. So my bet is still on a Erickson/Jamison battle royale, especially if more than one Dem runs….. (I hope they care about crime, though)
If Huether is now thinking of a gubernatorial bid, it is probably because he senses, as I do, that Noem will be the nominee and thus a GOP weakness for 2018. And Krebs would be harder to beat in a House race. I think Krebs will beat Dusty on the issue of greater substance versus a congressional page image issue. But none of this assessment matters as long as the Dems run a candidate, too. And I do not understand the brilliance of Huethers “Independent status” regardless of a House or Gubernatorial bid, it is obviously above my pay grade….(???)
I have always thought that Huether was a very strong Democratic candidate for governor and that history was on his side, but this “Independent” thing has severely challenged his chances. Perhaps, it is merely a sub conscious wish to be mayor once again….?

If you are talking about the Huether/Entenman crowd don’t ever mistake “Quality of Life” to mean affordable housing.
Anyone who observed Entenman during his time on the Council, knows Quality of Life to him means he supports taxpayers subsidizing all Special Interests…. indoor tennis courts, indoor hockey rinks, indoor swimming pools, SD Jr. Football Fields and on and on……

mmm views himself as a greek god in SF politics. Been listening to him for years on his monthly political BS sessions with belfrage, his campaign manager. These are the tea leaves as I see them. IF a sitting mayor can run for an at large city council position, he will, in an attempt to run again later as mayor. He knows he has no chance at a state run for anything. Playing the crying game might fly in SF, but no way in hell in the state.
Entenman should stick with selling overpriced motorcycles to midlife ED male chauvinists. The city needs someone to clean up city debt and litigation. Entenman could do it but he’s lazy and always on vacation. Just another crooked thousand dollar suit except maybe a sombrero.
The political reality is that Entenman will raise more campaign funds than all of the candidates, enjoy broad support in the financial, healthcare and chamber of commerce sectors and likely be elected the next mayor.

Erickson is not the answer. She lost her courage to stand against Huether on the new Administration Building and pulled other votes with her. I have watched her flit from one issue to the other and not stand firmly. I am not impressed.
