Surprised they are being so short-sighted on such a great spot downtown. I would have built at least a 3-story structure with underground parking.

Below are some different designs that could be tweaked to fit the area.

I would probably have underground parking strictly for apartment tenants on 2nd and 3rd floors. I would do retail on main level and ALL studio apartments on 2nd and 3rd floors with a rooftop patio and garden for the tenants.

10 Thoughts on “I would have done something different with the Copper Lounge space

On top of being a wasted chance to build something great it will use fake brick. Can we not get real brick buildings downtown anymore?

  3. So the new name is Boomerang, huh? Boomerang Investments, that is. But doesn’t a boomerang eventually comeback at you? So do we really want to return to the same mistakes?

Based on what we already know. How come no one on the Council has introduced an ordinance or ordinances to tighten up building permit requirements? Like requiring contractors, who have failed to pass past inspections, to be subjected to surprise inspections or tighter incremental inspections with future permitted work? Do we really need to wait for the finality of OSHA or private lawsuits to initiate such new ordinances? I don’t think so. It’s time to act!

Here’s a good definition in the meantime to ponder, however:

    boo·mer·ang
    ˈbo͞oməˌraNG

    verb
    1.
(of a plan or action) return to the originator, often with negative consequences.

Sounds like Boomerang is the resurgence of Legacy partners. Characteristically, one moves assets across the street and thwarts liabilities into a bankrupt corporation. In this case, Legacy. Boomerang is an offensive reference. The original Legacy found the way back by getting away with murder and continued building code violations. It’s looking like the building collapse was staged. How do these people live with themselves?

The best way to demolish and clear an old building is have city resources do it for free. Make it a disaster with public sympathy and there’s no suspicion. Next, brag about an immediate reconstruction that’s behind a fake Hollywood set. It’s perfect. Disguised Mayor and developer fascism works.

EC, I got kind of a macabre feeling also when Drake called it ‘Boomerang’. Very strange indeed. It wasn’t like the building fell over due to an earthquake, it was due to human stupidity, and someone died.

Do any of the investors in Legacy have US marines in their family? How about a memorial garden to the literal casualties of SD’s right-to-work laws? Will there be enough space on PAVE’s wall for all the names?

  10. l3wis, exactly! I think the new name is totally disrespectful given the players involved in this “new” investment company and the lateral Legacy/Hultgren group. Not to mention, that the attempt to reinvent themselves with this new name is inexcusable and speaks loudly of a greed motivation given the past injury, death, and damage they have created with a prior project.

I was also shocked that the local media didn’t identify Drake as the head of Legacy, that had the head of Hultgren on its Legacy Board prior to the building collapse, and was overseeing the renovation of the prior Copper Lounge building when it collapsed, when they made mention of this new “Boomerang Investments” group. It is as if this name change walks us all into a new universe and we are not to notice this, and if we do, we are just suppose to shut up and take it.

And what happen to Lewis too? Did “Lewy Left a Gift” decide to walk from any potential future deep pocket concerns?
