It seems a little odd to me that a person who switched their registration to independent wouldn’t be out fundraising. If Mike doesn’t announce he is running for higher office by the end of July, it may be a little difficult for him to raise enough money to be competitive. I think both the Governor and Congressional races will probably run about the same campaign budget numbers.
While Mike doesn’t have to compete in a primary, I would think he would want to be out there running right now.
There is also a part of me that believes Mike when he says he doesn’t know what he wants to run for. Well, I kind of know what he wants to run for, another mayor’s term.
It could be something he could very well pull off. If Diamond Jim wins, he could easily resign within 2 years and leave it open for a special election (and giving Huether an early heads up). I wouldn’t doubt that Mike will endorse Jim.
In other news, Mike talks about his yellow stickie notes in his truck he writes down code violations. What a guy, not only is he so talented to run our city with business acumen, he has time to be our number one code enforcement officer.
He says the only people who complain about code enforcement are those that don’t follow the code, I would partially agree, but I also think that a good percentage of people who complain about code enforcement are also very aware of their property rights and the US Constitution, something the mayor has no clue about.

If he runs for anything state, he’ll be beaten badly. West River and 6400 petitioners will guarantee it. Add in Code Enforcement victims who wouldn’t have voted with democrats who threw him out of the party and there’s a political disaster. He’s done but (likely) will keep showing up at senior centers for ‘Hearing Aid and Senile’ sessions.
He should be careful about reporting code enforcement violations. The city considers itself complainant but he’s an independent party who can be sued for incrimination. Instead, it would be nice if he showed up for building collapses and PGA announcements.
Code enforcement has become revenge. Huether uses it to aggravate city councilors and Bruce Danielson. The rest of us ignore the ignorant enforcement officers.
When will the Public Inputers follow the mayor’s Dang, Dang, Dang. Will they be gaveled?
What I think is really tragic, is the fact that we have an open House seat, a collapsing farm economy, an unpopular Republican President, yet, no credible Democratic candidate for the US House here in South Dakota for 2018.
There is no better time for a Democrat to run for the US House in South Dakota, since the infancy of Herseth/Sandlin’s congressional career, then now. But who, what, and when?
As South Dakota Democrats we have a far better chance of winning that House race then the governors race, yet we seem to be putting our marbles in the wrong bag….
Most of Mr. Heuther’s votes are probably going to be split between Mr. Sutton and Ms. Noem. He knows he stands no chance and will want to go back to being king of Sioux Falls.
I say he stays in SF, or at his beach head, and throws his cowboy hat and ways around at Carnegie on tuesday nites.
He’d could be a clown at the EC Rodeo. Try the Coca Cola Cowboy laugh with a thousand dollar suit, tennis shoes, and a sombrero.
