Well, it’s official. Our new elementary school on the southwest side of town will be named after Mr. R.F. Pettigrew.

Personally, I believe this to be a pretty good choice. Mr. Pettigrew left a mark on this town and his home is maintained as a museum to this day. It would be nice to know what other names were considered, but I guess that’s classified information – you know, for national security.

It certainly beats my prediction from an earlier South Dacola discussion of the topic – Thomas Kincade. I figured nothing says “western Sioux Falls” like mass produced, cheesy, idyllic farm and small town scenes printed to hang in mass produced beige tract houses in treeless, windswept suburbia.

  1. A day late and a dollar short. I wonder if the kids will be allowed to pray in a school named after an agnostic?
