Well, it wasn’t the only funny answer Ron had. But overall it was a great debate having all four candidates up there.

While Dusty may have the best chance and is a good debater and stays positive, if you actually listen to some of his answers, he is one scary dude. He wants to raise the Social Security age to 70, he wants a work requirement for SNAP, he wants to eliminate minimum wage requirements, medicare and medicade. In other words if you are not a healthy, hard-working slave Republican, Dusty doesn’t want to help you. The fortunate thing about Dusty probably winning is that with only one seat in Congress, he will accomplish very little, just like Noem before him.

Hendrickson had one of the best answers tonight when asked how he is different than his opponents, he basically said the reason Washington never changes is because we keep sending career politicians (Dusty) or lawyers (Tim) there.

  1. Dusty claims he read the 700 page Ag Bill over the summer. If that is the case, then what is he going to do, when confronted with hundreds of bills as a newly elected congressman? Will he have time to vote on the floor, to meet with constituents, read mail from South Dakota, or attend committee meetings, if he continues to try to read all of the bills?

At some point, this ploy will need to end, but for now, he is like the kid trying to impress his teacher about all of the books he read over the summer, but eventually this anal quality will need to end, will it not? Else, our “newly elected-congressman” will be nothing but a book reviewer, a nerd, or a book worm, who weasels out of a true discussion of the issues by making the voluminous of the issue, the issue, and not its pinpoint substance….. But then again when you are a “BS Wonk” and not a true “Policy Wonk,” then your voluminous capability sadly becomes the limits of your true substance, does it not?….

  2. Dusty didn’t say he wanted a retirement age of 70 years old.
Dusty didn’t say he wanted to eliminate Medicaid.
Dusty didn’t say he wanted to eliminate Medicare.

He may be one scary dude, but he didn’t say those things.

  3. Monty, and you have explained why Republicans and people like Dusty keep getting elected in SD, because they never ‘Flat out’ say those things, but dance real close to the lines. And that’s what Dusty says, “We need to look at . . .” Which is code for, “We need to eliminate it.” He did say on Lalley’s show that he wants the retirement age raised to 70 and he has said it on other media. Basically, Dusty thinks we need to work over 50 years of our lives before receiving benefits. Or people like me who started doing chores on the farm at the age of 8, over 60 years of my life.

  4. Anon – Right!? I get so pissed at Republicans when they say we need to cut these programs because they are ‘entitlements’. BS! I paid into them my whole life.

  5. Monty, on Dusty’s Facebook, he talks about raising the SS age to 70. In fact, his buddy over at the War Campus even posted that Facebook entry a few months ago, that’s where I saw it…
