It was pointed out to me that the parking lot at Kenny Anderson Community Center has been torn up this summer, so I am curious where people are going to park tomorrow night at the town hall meeting.
I also wonder if Governor Noem will be invited to the meeting since she thought it was so wise to sign in a concealed weapon law this past legislative session?
I must have missed the story- has it been shown that someone legally possessing a firearm has been involved in these shootings. I think, as always, it is a criminal doing the deed.
And with NO permit requirement, we will never know who is a criminal or not that is carrying.
What does the new concelead weapon law have to do with criminals? Are you honestly going to try to argue that criminals care about laws? Murder (and attempted murder) is ALREADY. ILLEGAL.

I love the way gun nuts come out of the woodwork, whenever there is a blog posting about guns. It reminds me of long lost relatives showing up at a funeral, when they hear there is a will.
I love the way alarmists come out whenever a person executes his constitutional rights- or there is some law that doesn’t provide for the complete destruction of all guns; guns don’t hurt people or violate reasonable laws restricting their use- idiots and criminals do; those are the ones who are “nuts”
MJ, do you know what the original purpose of the 2nd Amendment was? It was for slave owners to protect from uprisings. I believe in constitutional rights, but there are limits on what you have a right to say. It’s kind of like the 1st Amendment, it doesn’t give you the legal right to use it to inflict harm on others or to threaten people. While the 1st Amendment is broad, there are still limits of it’s use.
But we have a National Guard now and have had a true standing army since the 1930s. Thus, there’s no need for a militia anymore, nor their accessories.

thanks for the history lesson Wis; the 2nd amendment was based in English common law that also recognized the right to bear arms- I missed that part in my reading where it talked about slave uprisings. As Ronald Regan said, it is not that liberals are ignorant, they just know wo much that isn’t true.

He was there, I just talked to him about the meeting (I watched it online). The Mayor and chief weren’t though. Shocker.
Prior to the Heller decision in ’08 – which is filled with conservative judicial activism by the way – SCOTUS had never recognized the right to bear arms and even the 5 to 4 majority in Heller placed limits on that right, which Scalia wrote.
In fact, since the decision involved a fact pattern from DC, a federal district. There are many who question – even absent of the obvious judicial activism issue – that the decision only applies to federal districts and cannot currently be applied to citizens living in individual states.
What a lot of people also do not understand, is the fact that the federal Bill of Rights of 1791 only applied to cases found in federal court as original jurisdiction prior to the passage of the 14th Amendment in 1867. So how could the 2nd Amendment have been initally meant to protect your right to bear arms regardless of where you reside in the US from day one? The time delay in the developing reality between 1791 and 1867 – let alone until 2008 with the Heller decision – demonstratively proves that the intent of the 2nd Amendment was to protect states against the new federal government and to protect state interests; an interest or greater states’ rights mentality, which our country as a whole held prior to the 14th Amendment.
Another shooting today in Mississippi. These happen weekly. There should be metal detectors at all public events. It will not happen here until a troubled individual opens up with an assault rifle. I worry that will be at the Levitt. It’s a large crowd with uncontrolled admittance and no security.
I decided long ago that I need to focus on living in the moment and try to live my life to the fullest. Worrying about what could happen only drags you down a self-made hole.
CJ- You are exactly right, and the reason I don’t own a gun. I guess I could live my life paranoid all the time, or take each day as is. Besides, even if I had a gun, I wouldn’t know how to use it anyway. I do however have a very large baseball bat, and I know exactly what I do with it if someone tried to attack me in my home.
These people who think they and others need a gun suffer from a case of Dodge City Syndrome. This syndrome can be very destructive to the mind and eventually the body too, because the instrument that they use for self-medication, that being a gun, often ends up hurting them and shortening, or reducing at least, the quality of their lives.
