The Bin Ladin family is a worldwide construction empire whose base is Saudi Arabia. Osama Bin Ladin was a black sheep expatriate of the family and Saudi government. When the Russians occupied Afghanistan, the US supported Bin Ladin against them. Osama joined and later led a terrorist group that became the Taliban. The Saudis or Bin Ladin family can’t be blamed for one man’s unendorsed actions. The US doesn’t belong in the Middle East except for diplomacy and trade. We learned the hard way but it’s taken 4 wars starting with Korea that an occupation force costs billions with no result. These wars make weapons manufacturers rich. It’s the only reason to be there. It’s a good reason because the US economy gets a boost. Now, we left everything with Taliban and Isis so we can make more weapons of war.
I am sure I have mentioned it before on my blog, but the reason I switched from Dem to Ind 20 years ago was when Daschle voted for the Iraq war. I said at the time, the Democratic Party no longer stands for diplomacy. I have even argued with my Democratic friends that I would return to the party once they return to diplomacy. Biden made a giant first step, let’s see how this plays out. I am not holding my breath.
America and the Saudis are intertwined in a geopolitical reality and partnership when it comes to the Middle East, which is driven by the West’s 20th century thirst for oil. But North Dakota and a few more Teslas could possibly change that in the 21st century.
