The group trying to prevent Wholestone from coming has hired the same group of folks who did the Recreational MJ petition drive. They are giving them until July to come up with around 5,000 valid signatures.
While I don’t take issue with paid petitioners, you would have thought this would have been a cakewalk to get volunteers.
We also have had no update of where the PAC is getting it’s funding.
UPDATE: I did get word last night as to who may be funding the group. While I can say it is probably reliable, I would rather wait until the campaign finance disclosures come out to verify it. It seems the motivation behind the petition drive isn’t about labor or housing shortages it is about . . . you guessed it, DEVELOPMENT. I guess the person(s) behind this has heavily invested in housing development in the area around the proposed plant. And who wants to live beside a poop factory? Remember folks, when these things come up it is always about money and not good government. I still question if they can even legally pass an ordinance like this due to constitutional property rights and the fact that Smithfields gets to remain open.
Still waiting word on who is heading up the opposition.

I understand the high end housing development isn’t near the proposed pork plant, but rather within eyesight of it. Apparently, the rich snobs don’t realize that entire development around Wholestone is zoned industrial?
Modern pork plants look and smell nothing like the 100+ year old Smithfield plant downtown. But I’m sure that won’t stop the petitioners from bending the truth to get what they want.
Not sure why so many are hell-bent on keeping a LOCALLY OWNED business from opening here in Sioux Falls; it is a much better option, and safer & cleaner facilities for employees, than foreign-owned Smithfield.

And to think, that chair lift is brand-new. And also, they’ll have to change the name to Can’t Bear It. But do we really want to put such a plant near a future depot for high speed trains? Plus, just because the Pathfinder Atomic plant was once in that vicinity doesn’t mean that toxicity is the norm around there…. (Atomic pork, just imagine that with some Hooters Chernobyl sauce ….)
Of course this group of cake-eaters is going to hire people to hustle signatures to their petition.
Gathering petition signatures from a public gathering is such demeaning and pedantic work, well beneath any of those folks.

two–also hearing a rather influential democrat operative is helping.
three–also hearing there is chinese money involved in this “local” venture.
