I have heard the excuses already, everything from dog poop to the homeless encampment on the East side of the park. With all the challenges this neighborhood has, why on earth would the school district lock up a public space kids could be playing in? Guess what, all the parks throughout the city have issues with trash, dog poop, etc. Guess what the city does? They clean it up and move on, this is why we collectively pay taxes for public services. Closing green space in a vulnerable neighborhood for kids makes little sense. Taxpayers own this recreational property, take the damn locks off.
This needs a legal interpretation. Some athletic fields at schools have locked gates. Some do not. Is there a standard? It would seem gates should be open during daylight hours and locked to prevent illegal activity (drug deals, dog poop) and camping (homeless) at night.
First it was the super precincts, then no school board election to be held, and now this. Next, they won’t let the kids go home at the end of the day. Rather, they will channeled them for further study for the sake of workforce development or prepare them for university. Their agenda is quite obvious. AND, as long as the kids never come home, then we won’t know if CRT is or is not still being taught in our schools, or who’s really playing girls’ sports….. (I can’t remember, did I take my pills today?….)
Please keep the locks on the gates on non school hours. I do not want my kids or grandkids to come to school in the morning and see beer cans, sleeping people, slide into needles impeded in the ground. No one in their right mind can or should complain about this. Oh wait a minute, I know a couple that will.
Weird, maybe we should lock up the bike trail during the day between . . . wait, the whole trail, because of goose sh!t. Let’s admit it, you don’t care about this because you don’t live there, because I can guarantee if this field was in North Harrisburg you would be bitching.

All the young folks in my neighborhood just got 10 grand knocked off there college debt while the people in the Whitter get nothing. WELCOME TO SOCIALISM FOLKS.
Actually, the people near Whittier probably got 20 grand. Since, they probably received past Pell Grants.
