A couple of interesting items on the consent agenda (Item #6, Sub-items 9-10)
Notice almost $1 million in sidewalk repairs. Is it just a pure coincidence?
The city also seems to think we need to spend $380K to design a new clubhouse at Elmwood (Sub-item #6).

While I understand there is design costs, we are NOT building a Nuclear Reactor, it’s a room where people can eat popcorn and drink beer and a lean two for parking golf carts. If it costs this much to design the facility, can’t wait for the price tag of the actual building? The new city engineering formula is estimate the cost, tack on another 10% and $10 million and call it good.
Why can’t we convert an abandoned old food truck into the new clubhouse, and then use that $380,000 to build three new medium priced homes in this town?…. Or, wouldn’t that be par for the course?

Inflation and higher interest has made any project difficult to accomplish. Fund allocation is never enough and there must be extra for completion. Then (also) where to find labor? The Fed fooling with interest rates has caused these problems. How about just fix and repair until there’s some semblance of a return to normal.

There was an 8% raise for social security. Another 8% is needed not even 3 months into the year. I’d say rob a bank but you can’t spend the loot fast enough and don’t go back for more. The bank became insolvent.
A $450k award for concrete sidewalk construction to a company named “Handy Man Services”??!!! Now I understand the pathetic repair on the sidewalk I’m responsible to clear snow from. The 2019 tornado toppled a city tree in the right-of-way by my house, & the torn up tree roots buckled the sidewalk. The COSF eventually sent workers to replace 2 sections of broken sidewalk at city expense. The crew were unsupervised neanderthal thugs who left a major mess of dirt/rock/cement in adjacent turf when they “finished”. Couldn’t be bothered to clean off the aggregate they carelessly splashed on the finished concrete sidewalk, which hardened to a permanent unsightly, ragged surface that catches the snowblower & shovel when trying to clear snow per city code. Tore out their wood forms & never refilled the turf soil they excavated. From potholed streets to sidewalks, we see countless examples of the COSF vaporizing taxpayer money on contract awards to poorly run, amateur outside contractors which the city fails to hold accountable for substandard work. “Handyman Services”. FFS!
