I saw the above bike DTSF this past weekend so I inquired about it from a city official. The city bought 2 but not sure what they paid (they retail on other sites for about $4K without all the whizz-bang cop extras). A bike in this class should run you about $2,500 without police sirens.
The bikes come in 750 or 1000 watt, the city chose the 750 which I would assume would give you a longer charge because you are using less power. I would have just went with the 1000 watt to have that extra power and bought backup batteries for the bikes so you have a spare charged, you can even rig bikes with dual batteries.
It is pretty obvious to me this company uses ‘bike cop’ mantra to sell these units, but they are really no different then a regular E2.
With all the sustainability boloney floating around you would have thought the city would have had a big presser about the bikes . . . oh that’s right, you look pretty foolish telling people they can’t ride their E2s on the trail when you are riding your E2 on the trail (for the record I have only seen the bike on the street).
The police also use motorcycles on the trail as well. The Parks Department uses pick-ups on the trail, and I once saw some teenagers drive a Plymouth Duster on it just for fun…. Come to think of it, maybe these teenagers were time travelers and they used a Duster because they couldn’t afford a Delorean, and they were warning us of the inevitable future….. ( …. “You built a time machine out of a Plymouth Duster?”…. “Doc, check this out!”…. )
I saw the SFPD pickup park in the fire lane at the South Minnesota HyVee the other night. I assumed they were there for a shoplifter as two female cops got out of the truck and went inside. Five minutes later, the two came out carrying a small cake, got back in the truck, and drove away.
MMM- Maybe it was their birthday? I know on my birthday I drive around to the grocers and park in the fire lane for at least 15 minutes at each place 🙂
Also, I know ‘certain’ past and current councilors have used their DTSF parking pass for personal business. Staggers told me once he never used his pass unless he was on official business DTSF, he said other councilors, not so much.

My favorite is the book reading parks worker. I think he has probably retired but he would water trees at Yankton Trail with a water truck, and while the tank was massive, he only had one hose running from it and would only water one tree at a time, while reading a novel. Someone needs to get this guy some ear buds.
I get a kick out of the new police pick-up. It makes us look like some small desolate town in Wyoming and a deputy sheriff just happens to be in our town.
Although, when Rapid had Saabs, with their Parisian sirens, for police cars was the best one of them all (Early 80s). Also, does anyone remember when we had Mercedes buses in this town back in the late 70s or early 80s? Talks about some diesel smokers.
