I get nervous when the administration drops grenades then retreats.

After the big reveal of this district there seems to be little public discussion about what next steps are.

I have no doubt that after most of the comments came back negative to building a baseball stadium and the council knowing nothing about the proposed purchase agreement, that the committee has decided to pull back and work on a better messaging strategy.

It seems the truth really does hurt in this case.

There is also the question of the city getting involved with a purchase agreement. I would hope the city council had the 5 votes to kill this but I doubt it.

Rumors circulating that after January 1st the administration will ask for the quality of life bonds which will be about $30 million for pools and another $20 million for ‘other stuff’. Don’t hold your breath now, but I bet your bottom dollar that the Riverline District will be a part of this bond.

We are going to get that baseball stadium whether we want it or not.

  1. Don’t you just miss the good old days when a comedy about Nazi Germany was en vogue. I’m surprised there weren’t spin-offs made of this sit-com. You know, like Laverne & Shirley coming from Happy Days. Maybe they could have had a spin-off entitled: ‘Blitzkrieg Blues’, ‘The Streets of Berlin’, ‘Autobahn Journeys’, or ‘Three Reichs Makes a Wrong’.

  2. “Well, I tell you”…. “If a guy was allowed to have a favorite Nazi”…. “It would definitely have to be Sargent Schultz”…. “He always cracked me up”…. “He had has those Rodney Dangerfield eyes”…. “But I guess for most, Wernher von Braun will have to do for their favorite allowable Third Reicher”…

  3. If they build a stadium there, they should name it after Hank Aaron. The original Canaries stadium was in the valley near there near the proposed new stadium at 10th & Cliff. Aaron played minor league ball there a few times back in the early 50s. He played for the Eau Claire team at the time, I believe it was. Plus, Aaron was black, so that would be fitting with the Mayor’s over compensation to the community of color in this town, but I bet they would never have a Pride Night there, however.

( and Woodstock adds: “Well, you know what they say, if you are funking algebra it’s best to be getting an “A” in gym to even it all out”….. 🙂 )

  4. Will it be named the Hy Vee Patrick Mahomes Stadium? After all he did spend about fifteen minutes in the old stadium running after his father when he was about 4 years old.
