When I first read about the meeting this afternoon, I did not believe it, oh but it happened (FF: 45:30);
What would have been a routine invoice approval turned into a regular old Tea Party in which our county auditor presumably invited her other bagger friends to tell the commission and public that using machines to count votes is very corrupt, even though much evidence has shown that automated tabulators are WAY more accurate then human counting (and probably the reason we had a Soviet style school bond election that was hand counted).
There is MUCH more room for fraud and corruption when you have humans counting the votes.
In podunk elections like funding pools with garbage, hand counting makes sense. Who wants to fire up the 1942 Massey Ferguson to plow a 1 acre lot? But in a county of this size, it would take many days and audits to make hand counting work.
Even if the counters are not unethical or corrupt, human error happens. When the machine is unclear of the vote, it spits it out and the review board considers the ballot. That is a GOOD thing.
This comment pretty much sums it up;
But Commissioner Joe Kippley had the harshest criticism for Anderson and her supporters, saying he didn’t appreciate “the smuggling in” of other issues to a routine service agreement.
“I just don’t get this Pontius Pilate, washing my hands, I’m just a tribune to the people, and I will let the public commentors come up and smuggle in all of these issues that have frankly been litigated in court,” Kippley said.
Kippley alluded to the litigation that electronic voting machine companies filed against supporters of former President Trump following the 2020 election in which they alleged the machines had been hacked. Fox News settled a lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems earlier this year for $787 million.
“I really don’t have a lot of patience for the nonsense around the election fraud stuff,” he said, noting that elections since 2000 have been disputed by the losing sides.
His entire testimony is actually very informative and entertaining. He pretty much threw a wet blanket on the MAGAts.
People win. People lose. It is NOT a broken system, that is how elections work. Can someone please explain it to our county auditor because I am pretty sure her hand is somewhere besides using it to count votes. And while it is up there, why don’t you pull out your head.
That’s why we have paper ballots and should always advocate a paper trail. The brilliance of the current system is that it embraces both modern technology and a redundancy capability, which is human.
I only have problems with systems that have no paper involved and ask us to vote on what appears to be an iPad of sorts. I believe the local school board used that system only once; and it made me feel as confident as when I’m on a “legitimate website” and give them my social security number 🙁 ……..
I say fxxk the Australian secret ballot system. Instead we should all meet at a town hall and vote in public by raising our hands. Then, sit back and watch the folding chairs begin to fly. We could call it the Geraldo Rivera ballot system:

What is the process for recalling this Auditor before she does any more damage?
This was clearly an ambush when she organized this meeting of the Flat Earth Society. I had to laugh at 1:04:25 when the public inputer was struggling for the right word, the auditor said it aloud, and the woman replied “thank you, Leah.” Loons of a feather on a first name basis.

The Trump Election coupe excited a local faction to monitor voting irregularity. The voting machine manufacturer might not be trusted but paper ballots are an antiquated tally. The future might well be internet voting with redundant sophisticated security checks and balances.
– I’d not miss the scavenger hunt looking for a moving polling place.
– An election worker once told me I couldn’t vote because I was Independent.
– No more signs at, around, and near an election center.
– You don’t need a red or blue armband and go last if it’s red/blue stripe.
The county commission is professional while the city council regularly violates Roberts Rules. The city budget is four times more yet the county has five times more road miles, is responsible for social services, and manages the jail. It just seems the city does only liquor licenses, inflated noncompetitive bid follies, and the TIF lottery. Something very wrong here.
I feel for these poor gaslit folks who are bringing up crazy voting disinformation, Where might they have gotten such bad information and still feel the need to fmake public comment with fact’s out of bizzaro world.
Facts:
– Machines are exponentially more accurate than hand counting.
– random human error is removed
– the chance that partisan human manipulation is eliminated. To the machine a vote is a vote.
– there’s NO proof that this company has given anything but accurate counting for a very long time.
Political partisan games wound around conspiracy theories is not what Minnehaha needs. Don’t fall for it commissioners.
where are the checks and balances to make sure leah and her magadites don’t throw out ballets that aren’t for the maga candidates? perhaps mike z can weigh in on this.
It’s the theatre of the absurd with Trump. Salem has come to life, but instead of a hunting of the witches they are rather hunting or haunting us. It’s like a spell on our democratic system, which only a fairy godmother can undo But who will it be? Obviously, not a white knight, but rather maybe a damsel who recognizes our distress and has ruby shoes in tow, some courage, a heart, and hopefully brains for others.
Better yet, it looks as though we are the victims of ‘A Clockwork Orange’ upon our democratic system, and orange, indeed.

Amazing how determined our people in charge of elections are saying that Rounds, Johnson, not to mention the 35 GOP landslide in the South Dakota Senate, and the 62 GOP landslide in the SD House, all stole their seats in the 2020 South Dakota election.
Oh, and apparently Trump stole his win in South Dakota.
Why else would South Dakota need to get rid of voting machines, machine counts, mail-in votes, etc.?
