Long time public transportation coordinator and Senior Planner let colleagues know in an email he will be leaving;

After 23 ½ years with the City of Sioux Falls, I have decided to take a new job.  One of my best experiences at the City of Sioux Falls has been working with the Bicycle Committee and implementation of the Bicycle Plan.  The Bicycle Committee  has been instrumental in helping me over that time.  Please stay engaged with the Bicycle Committee (and now Active Transportation Board too) helping Sioux Falls become a more bicycle-friendly city.  My last day at the City is December 1, but I will continue to be here in Sioux Falls.  Thanks!

Sam Trebilcock, AICP, Senior Planner // City of Sioux Falls

To tell you the truth, I can’t blame him. With a new vendor moving in for public transportation and the Active Transportation board still working on solutions, retirement probably looked pretty inviting.

While I have disagreed with Sam on a whole host of things, he has been fair and straightforward.

    Sam is a good man. Often the reality is keeping your job and doing it right, while keeping the politicians happy. It’s a tough act, that is not always admired or done. But having 23 1/2 years with the city means he served us well. And remember, good people can always disagree.

    23 years tolerating narcissist dictator mayors. I hope he’s leaving to negotiate peace in the Middle East. Tortured for a quarter century is worse than stations of the cross!

    Has seemed to me like Sam, a guy with passion for developing a system for bicycle transportation in the City, got stuck with trying to execute on the dead end dream plan of the Selfie Mayor and Liquor Cart Boy to turn the bus system into a ride sharing program (Uber, but with a bus).
    Public transportation is decrepit in Sioux Falls.

    The establishment around here appears to fear buses, that’s why our current transit system appears to be stagnant…… AND, it could also further explain why they once warned us about ,”Three buses from Fargo”….. But as long as the bus system around here is underdeveloped, then we shouldn’t have to worry too much about that huge white FEMA relocation center on the NW side of town, however…… Although, I still don’t know why we need so many Silverstar cleansing centers around this town….. Oh, and they also kept the trains, too….. They appear to like trains, but not so much buses……

    “‘Three buses from Fargo’?”….. ( …. “I still say that Johnny Cash once recorded that”…… ) …….
