Not sure how long the city has been doing this, but if you look at the December expense report apparently we need to fund religious orgs in town now;

YMCA (YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSN OF SF): $16,416.63, Operating Support

Besides being kind of an odd amount and giving money to a religious organization without the consent of the public or even the city council is NOT a good look. Also, if you check their tax filing from 2020 they are part of a National organization that pulls in millions from donors and grants;

This organization is an independent organization and not affiliated with a larger national or regional group of organizations. Young Mens Christian Association is a 501(c)(3) and as such, is described as a “Charitable or Religous organization or a private foundation” by the IRS.

They even describe themselves as a religious organization. It would be like the taxpayers giving money to the Catholic Diocese. I know we have been giving to them for awhile on different programming but after they f’d up the deal with Sanford on the west side rec center, essentially forcing us to purchase the place because Sanford was loosing money on the facility, they shouldn’t get another penny from us!

The entire expense report is fascinating to read because it provides little detail for massive handouts, like this;

LLOYD COMPANIES: $992,331.40, Various Projects

Closed government at it’s best!

Speaking of that, the salaries finally posted Friday afternoon, AFTER, they were printed in the Dakota Scout and distributed. I have not done a deep dive yet, but if you compare to last year, some folks got some massive raises!

  1. Dear Governor Kristi Noem:

    You sent your letter of resignation to the Lt. Governor, but why? A lt. governor can obviously benefit politically from a gubernatorial resignation, but it is not their duty or right to recognize, police, or enforce a gubernatorial transition.

    In 1974, Richard Nixon sent his resignation letter to then Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, and not to then vice-President Gerald Ford.

    In my opinion, you are still the Governor of South Dakota until you notify the South Dakota
    Secretary of State of your resignation.

    Respectfully,

    VSG

  2. Okay, so I have been making multiple comments on DWC stating that I think that Noem is still governor because she sent the resignation letter to the wrong person, but Pat keeps deleting them. But if my claim is far-fetched, then why not just belittle me, but instead, he suppresses the truth, which is just further proof how much this state is nothing but a banana republic and that I’m right.

    Nixon sent his letter to Kissinger and not Ford.

    A Democratic legislator needs to request an AG opinion on this issue. Else, someone(?) needs to file an emergency petition for declaratory judgment concerning this issue to the South Dakota Supreme
    Court. #AMcCookLakeResignation #MaybeTheNatlGuardCanHelpUsWithThisOne

  3. This is but one irregularity. However, everything the city engages in is elemental criminal fraud. When the charter gives the mayor complete authority, the billion dollar budget gets separatist appropriated. Ethics, need, and democracy cannot be questioned when there’s one man with absolute power.

  4. I have to admit I’m not getting much traction with people for my claim that Noem is still governor because she sent her resignation letter to the wrong person or political office, but I think that’s because people on both sides of the aisle are just glad to be rid of her.

    Listen, is this State just a treehouse club where you tell your friend that, “Hey, you are now running the show?”…. Well, maybe it is. Often, this state seems more like a club than a political state, and how Noem has tried to handle her resignation is exhibit-A of that reality.

    It’s the duty of the Secretary of State’s office to handle this resignation. The SOS office handles the ceritification of everything that initially plays out in all three branches of state government. You can’t be a legislator until you legally win and receive a certification from the SOS’s office, and nor can a recently elected governor/lt. governor. In fact, the retention of state judges is also administered by the SOSs office. Noem’s office has obviously screwed up on this one. If you resign as governor, that letter has to be sent to the SOS’s office; then it is the duty of the SOS office to contact the then sitting lt. governor to inform them that they are now the governor.

    But keep in mind, this is the same state where legislators claimed they did not have the power to subpoena as a part of the Government Operations and Audit Committee during their investigation of EB-5 and the potential investigation of bigwigs in the South Dakota GOP, but now speed forward a few years later, and now apparently the state legislature has the subpoena power to petition individuals concerning alleged fraudulent acts by pinons in state government who are not bigwigs. Go figure.

    Or, how about how our current AG was a presidential elector for a presidential candidate who was convicted of 34 counts of fraud in New York and also found liable for sexual abuse and defamation in a civil court case? Oh, and let’s not forget how many times this presidential candidate has publicly belittled our court system and many state and federal judges throughout the land. So, how can the AG’s association with such a political candidate not be in violation of the AGs duty as an attorney, and thus as an officer of the court like all members of the bar are, to uphold the law and not be a part of any legal misgivings, whether in act or appearance?

    But then again, all of this is playing out in good old South Dakota, isn’t it? Perhaps, I expect too much. AND, no wonder Noem sent National Guard troops to Texas, but not McCook Lake… Hell, she doesn’t even know how to resign from office appropriately.

    Noem’s resignation letter:
    Well, this is interesting. Yesterday, that “official” resignation letter from Noem to Rhoden was available on the Keloland website with the following news story, but now it’s missing. Gee, I wonder why? #WhatABananaRepublic! #AreSomeInTheMediaAccomplices? #WasVSGRight? #KeepingThemHonest!

  5. Indeed, it does. Why was there such confusion yesterday concerning the place and time for Noem’s swearing-in as the new Homeland Security Secretary? Was it because she was still governor? But can you FedEx within hours, or is a photocopy of a “new” resignation letter good or legal enough? #FaxTime …..Oh, I don’t know, and where was Brian in that swearing-in photo? …. At least Cory wasn’t there:

  6. I’d love to see the Republicans produce Kneip’s resignation letter. My guess is that it wasn’t from Dick to Harvey.

    I also found it interesting that Rhoden is keeping most of Noem’s staff, but not her legal counsel. Because, I wouldn’t keep her legal staff either after Resignationlettergate. 😉

    AND, I see that Rhoden has brought Matt Michaels back to state government based on the following KELO story. I’m glad to see that. I’ve known Matt since 1980. He’s far more conservative than me, but he’s a straight shooter and very competent. I knew Matt from student government days back at USD and haven’t talked to him since the time I sold him a pair of black wingtips, about 20 plus years ago, …..and, oh, remember, always check the shoes 😉 ….. We were also almost on opposing sides back then as well on a legal matter, but we settled out of court (I won 😉 ). Matt will be good for Rhoden.
