The RNC has officially imploded!
I need to follow these politics more. I wonder if Meghan McCain is next?
Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter will switch his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat and announced today that he will run in 2010 as a Democrat, according to a statement he released this morning.
Specter’s decision would give Democrats a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate assuming Democrat Al Franken is eventually sworn in as the next Senator from Minnesota. (Former Sen. Norm Coleman is appealing Franken’s victory in the state Supreme Court.)
I’m not even gonna turn on FOX News today, there is probably so many heads exploding over there, the set looks like the aftermath of Hiroshima.
Actually the GOP is saying this is a good thing since he wasn’t really in support of their ideals.
You should know there is no room for moderatate or differing viewpoints in the Republican party.
However – we all know Washington is a game of numbers, and with Specter’s defection it gives Democrats a potential for the fillibuster breaking 60 votes, so we all know the GOP is very, very upset about this regardless of what they say.
I’d say this is a good day for conservatives (because Specter isn’t a conservative), but a bad day for Republicans.
I also find the humor that all of the GOP talking heads (and their good foot soldiers on talk radio and on Fox) have already said the only reason he is changing parties is because he was getting beat in the polls for his primary race for re-election.
Get real – the election isn’t until friggin’ November and these guys are already blaming polls? If they care about polls so much maybe they should pay attention to those that suggest Americans are sick and tired of the games played by the Republican party.

That is partially true, if you follow the link you will see Spektor says it himself, over 200,000 Pennsylvanians have switched there RNC registration to DNC. But you are right, it’s not the only reason. Spektor has been a moderate leaning liberal for a long time.
Costner touched on this but I will say it in not so many words…the Democratic Party will welcome Specter with open arms and the Republicans are saying “Good Riddance”. That should tell you how small the GOP tent has become. They would rather lose a moderate to purify the party than agree to disagree on a few issues. That right there is the difference between Dems and Repubs.
I think both parties are a joke. I find it increasingly ironic that a majority of registered voters are indys now (Latest poll – 38%) yet we have very little representation in DC. Just more of the party-farty politics.

Memo to GOP-brains: seat Al Franken NOW or we’ll block the resolution to give Specter’s committee seats to Republicans and allow him to instead remain on
Appropriations,
Judiciary,
Veteran’s Affairs,
Environment and Public Works,
etc.
where he’ll be caucusing and voting as a Democrat.
…And Bill Kristol smugly says that it’s a GOOD thing that Specter switched parties. Boy those guys really think things through before they speak, don’t they? Hey Bill! Maybe another ten or twenty folks leaving your party would be a really wonderful thing, then, hunh? Dumbass?
It’s funny that the party is trying to purge themselves of RINOs, but if you ask three republicans what the core principles of their party are, you’ll get three different answers. They can’t find their asses with both hands, yet they accuse others of not being “real” republicans.
It would be absolutely hilarious if it wasn’t so sad.
I’d like to see a dozen or so true conservatives break away and start their own party. Just call it what it is….the Conservative Party.
If it was built upon fiscal conservatism coupled with social responsibility I’d change my voter registration tomorrow. But alas, it will never happen because there don’t appear to be a dozen members of the GOP who are able to think for themselves.
