Kermit Staggers

Stehly’s letter about councilors Staggers, Jamison & Anderson.

This is an awesome letter;

Recently, four City Council members were sworn into office for four-year terms at Carnegie Town Hall.

Three of these council members, Kermit Staggers, Kenny Anderson and Greg Jamison, have several years of experience serving the citizens in this political capacity. I personally have found all three of these men to be responsive, caring and full of integrity. This is a refreshing reassurance in a time when many politicians are motivated by big business and personal gain.

What is exciting about these men is that they have a proven track record of standing up for fiscal responsibility, and courageous decision-making. Staggers, Anderson and Jamison stood strong to defend the reputation of our city clerk, Debra Owen. Jamison and Anderson were some of the first members on the council to apologize to the public when the council was found guilty for breaking the open meetings law this spring.

I believe these men have a desire to develop public trust in government and to keep the political process open and honest. They want to do what is best for all the citizens of Sioux Falls. We are blessed to have this kind of quality on our City Council.

I invite the public to tune into channel 16 on Tuesday nights at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to view for yourselves our government in action.

As we progress onward with our newly elected officials, stay in touch and informed. This city belongs to all citizens, and we need to stay connected.

The ‘Real’ drama comes from the mayor

Had to chuckle after watching this interview on KSFY last night. Towards the end of the Staggers/Huether interview, Mike says he doesn’t like ‘Drama’;

“I am not a big fan of gamesmanship. I don’t like posturing. I don’t like the politics, you know, if you’re just going to grandstand, that is not good.” Mayor Huether says he is not a political bully and is always open to discussing differences with council members, he says Kermit Staggers will be no exception.
But Huether makes it clear; he expects Staggers to work for the city and to work with him…not against him…and that he does not want drama at Carnegie Town Hall. “Lets leave the grand standing and the politics to Washington DC. You see what those folks are doing out there and you see the anxiety and the stress that its caused the people of our state and our country. Lets leave that crap out there in DC. We have stuff we want to get done in our town.”

You mean, like crying in front of the cameras? Is that the kind of ‘Drama’ you are talking about? Let’s talk about crap, there should be a boot scrape outside your office so people can clean their shoes when they leave.

Not that it matters now, or maybe it does?

I received new information today that the SD Democratic Party, or at least one of their operatives, supposedly, was helping De Knudson to raise money for her campaign. I only have two sources, so I’m not going to say whether this is true or not, just speculation at this point, BUT;

1) It would explain why a young Democrat like Jesse Vavreck was asked to step out of the race.

2) It would also explain why Knudson was asked to speak at a Democratic forum and not Staggers.

3) I also found it a bit odd that so many loyal Dems I talked to supported De.

This should come as no surprise, Dave and De Knudson were Democrats for years, but like Bob Litz, they realized if you want to move up that political latter you have to register Republican, except it didn’t work for Dave or De. At least their son is smart enough to stick with the Democratic label running for the State Legislature, even though I think Manny Steele is going to cream him.

I find it a bit humorous, that even when the SD Dems put all of their resources behind a Republican they even lose, in fact I find it completely, side-splitting hilarious. It wasn’t like Kermit beat De by a couple of votes, he handily beat her and did it with a grassroots campaign that spent 20% of what she did.

For the record, I never thought I would support a conservative candidate like Staggers, but I like his record on fiscal responsibility and transparency in government, something the faux Republican Knudson never has had a record on.

I also find it a little disappointing that the Democrats wanted Kermit to lose so bad, they had to back a Republican. Who says the two parties can’t work together? Except this time the result was quite disastrous, and quite embarrassing.

If this all really went down, as I have heard it did, I hope the Dems learned a lesson from it. Support your own next time, you know, like Jesse Vavreck.

(PS – I also heard they tried to help other candidates that were running against Republicans in the council race.)

Staggers’ SUPER FRIENDS

On the non-free online local newspaper’s show (4/17), 100 Eyes, managing editor Patrick Lalley suggested that he wanted to come up with a name for Stagger’s hardcore supporters like “Ehrisman and Stehly”. One of the commenters suggested the ‘Legion of Doom’.

So I challenge my readers to come up with a monicker for Stagger’s supporters. And to make this even more interesting an appropriate name for the 100 Eyes show with host Patrick ‘ ______’ Lalley

The Money Machine was shut down tonight!

I just got back from Kermit’s home where there was celebrating going on. I would also like to congratulate the other winners tonight. Todd Thoelke and Kate Parker for school board and Greg Jamison and Kenny Anderson Jr. for city council. And of course Kermit, who proved you can run a grassroots campaign on a shoestring and shutdown the money players in town. This was an important win.

I think something I took from this election was the lack of polling, and how actual campaigning played a part. Knudson chose to spend money on the airwaves and robo calls, where Staggers went down the tried and tested road of ACTUALLY talking to constituents. Which worked.

I will confess, low voter turnout worked in Kermit’s favor. Why? His supporters are vigilant people who pay attention to the issues. But there were other factors that played a part;

• Many people are concerned about the developers running this town, more and more everyday

• People want the EC to built within budget, our mayor promised us that, and they know Kermit will hold his feet to the fire

• Buyer’s remorse on the mayoral election (I hear this one a lot).

Whatever the reason, I would like to thank everyone who voted today and supported Kermit. I know he truly appreciates it.
