Alison Krauss played the White House last night

Trust me, it was shocking to hear she played at the White House last night, but I will have to give props to Obama for at least picking a good country performer (of course he probably did not pick her, because I’m sure they all cringed when he quoted Garth Brooks before the performance). If you have never seen Alison and her band live, they are remarkable and one of the tightest bluegrass/country bands I have ever seen.

The below video is not of last night’s concert

SD Jazz Orchestra Monday Night Concerts @ Skellys

SDJOskelly's

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME BIG BAND!

In between holidays and no Monday night football?  How about the SDJO (South Dakota Jazz Orchestra) to fill the void?   Starting on tonight, the SDJO will perform every Monday evening at Skellys from 7:00 to 9:30.  Skellys will be serving food during that time and will be open to all ages.  Featuring many of the Sioux empires finest jazz musicians, the South Dakota Jazz Orchestra redefines Jazz in South Dakota and throughout the midwest — bringing to Jazz what the philharmonic gave to classical music: a modern audience, a standard of excellence and a nurturing creative community. The SDJO plays music from the masters of the art such as Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich and others as well as new compositions and arrangements.

Even Funnier!

Last week Eppy the Babe Hound posted that we’re having a “blog war“. I would like to clarify that nobody is being threatened with physical harm. I’m not wishing any evil on Todd or Caheidelwatsit for their contrary views. They have lower standards in music than most of us cool kids over here at SouthDacola, and they contribute to what’s wrong with the music scene in Sioux Falls and the surrounding areas.

And for the record Cory, I DO think that Janitor Blob is a bunch of media whores. Whore might not be the right word, but I’d like to see how much $ actually gets donated to charity, as opposed to how many cheeseburgers Pat invests in with his share. (For the record, I’ve had great times at Janitor Blob concerts.. 15 years ago. I’m just not paying a $20 cover to see furniture salesmen plow through Happy Song, even if it is in the name of cancer research.)
