Planned Parenthood

What’s the future of Planned Parenthood in South Dakota?

About a month or so ago the land that Sioux Falls PP sits on was re-zoned for office. Nothing suspicious about it, they wanted the double lot to be rezoned so they could put a business just East of PP on the empty space, and cleaning up Shape Places zoning ordinance.

At this Wednesday’s Planning Commission meeting (Item #12) A proposed drive-thru coffee shop is going on that eastern plot. Still not suspicious.

I asked a few people about the proposed coffee shop by PP and the answer I have gotten is that there may be plans to close PP in South Dakota.

Not sure what my readers have heard or if anyone could share information about this ‘rumor’.

This would of course make a lot of (anti-choice) people happy, but if you are seeking an elective abortion you may have to travel a bit further.

Why is the city trying to change the zoning of Planned Parenthood?

pp

If you dig in the Planning Commission meeting agenda, Item #7, which is titled ‘Various Re-zoning’ and sponsored by the city, you will see the last item on the list;

REZ-1878-2014: REZONE from the RA-1, Apartment Residential-Low Density District to the O, Office District for allowed forms. Location: 6501 W. 41st St. – southeast of S. Sertoma Ave. and W. 41st St. Applicant: City of Sioux Falls

Purpose: The zoning map for 6501 W. 41st St. where an office to the west currently exists and vacant land to the east exists was incorrectly identified as RA-2/MD2 Form which does not allow offices in the zoning district. The city is proposing to rezone the property to the O/BCF1 Form where offices are permitted.

First, let’s just say that I am just asking the question, and not speculating. While it makes sense that they would want to rezone the property East of PP (to build offices) I’m curious as to why they are including PP in the rezoning? Since PP does medical procedures at their location, which most are not abortions, they should be zoned INSTITUTIONAL, not OFFICE.

Is this being done to force PP from that location? Or did PP say they were already moving? If so, who would lease to them?

And why is the city sponsoring this move? Who put them up to it?

So the GOP is going to shut down government over abortion and global warming?

The GOP wants to stop military pay over free condoms. Well, kinda.

I will admit, I haven’t really paid much attention to this until yesterday. Our MSM is so freaking awful, that I often ignore there cackling of crisis until the last minute. Disaster will ultimately be averted and either the Dems or the Repugs will come out the heros. But what shocks me is what the argument is all about;

Instead, the major obstacle was Republican insistence on including provisions that would strip Planned Parenthood funding and prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions, he said.

That’s right kids, the GOP wants to shut down most of the federal government because they are upset PP gives out free condoms and the the EPA believes in global warming.

They got their way with ACORN, it’s time to put an end to the insanity. If the GOP wanted to reign in spending on the Pentagon, Medicare and Social Security (our biggest budgetary expenditures), I might understand there stance. But providing affordable healthcare to women and protecting our environment (both of which take very little of our total budget) as excuses to shut down government seem as weak arguments. Don’t agree with abortion? Get Roe vs. Wade overturned. Abortion is legal in our country. Don’t believe in global warming? Fine. Give us scientific proof it doesn’t exist. Otherwise STFU!

Looking for a good time?

An old high school classmate posted this blog on Facebook the other day. Basically, a friend is trying to set up her sister on a date.

From the blog Date My Sis:

I am the protective sister (I’ve been known to shoot a gun, but only at non-living targets {wink}).
In all honesty, I only want what is best for my sister. Read below, and if you’re cool with it all, we can arrange a fab date between you and the most adorable girl on the planet.
Whatcha got to lose?
  • Suitor MUST believe in Jesus. That is non-negotiable.
  • Suitor must live in the Greater Columbus area (Ohio). My sister works four ten-hour days a week, and she spends her off-days catching up with friends and family. It just wouldn’t make sense for her to travel an hour each way to meet up with someone during her downtime. Now, if you have a private jet and prefer that mode of transportation – that’s a different story.
  • Men only. Enough said.
  • Technically, there isn’t an age limit or range, but my sister has never dated anyone considerably older or younger. Dating someone 10 years older would be quite a stretch, and let’s be real, she isn’t looking to date anyone whose lifestyle mirrors the average frat boy. She’s been financially independent and career-driven for several years, thus she deserves someone who is equally stable (not to say she doesn’t enjoy a fun night out on the town every now and then. My sister is way more fun than I ever will be).
  • My sister has the right to say NO to anyone whom she does not deem appropriate. If she ain’t feeling it, oh well.
  • Assuming you do go out with her, you will meet up at the arranged location (no carpooling), and you will leave the arranged location separately. Face it, anytime the Internet is involved, there is a risk. My sister’s safety WILL NOT be jeopardized. I (along with my gun-happy husband and the rest of his hunting buddies) will be VERY aware of her exact location. She will have her cell phone with her at all times. Heck, I might even be waiting for her outside in the car {wink}.
  • The results of your date will be blogged about. Neither your name nor any telling information will be published, but the highs and lows of the date will be. Think about it, this is a win-win situation. If you are wondering how things went, all you have to do is check the blog. Full disclosure.
  • Most importantly, this should be fun. As long as you go into this with a hey-why-not attitude and an honest disposition, I promise you will be impressed. Only God knows what will come of this Date My Sis idea, in the meantime, have some fun!
  • So, if you’re interested or know someone who might be interested, go to Date My Sis and leave a comment. I left a suggestion, but I don’t know that they’ll jump on it. Let’s help this fine Christian honey find a man.
