Sioux Falls City Councilor Neitzert doesn’t deserve re-election

Greg has stabbed a lot of people in the back over the last four years, not only myself who helped him get elected in the first place, laying out his campaign marketing strategy, but many citizens along the way. Let’s look at Greg’s supposed record of leadership.

• Voted for property tax increases all four years on the council. He claims to have been the champion of killing the cable tax hike, but I didn’t have a problem with it because cable is a luxury, affordable housing is not.

• His reversal on the administration building. This was the first time Greg started to show his true colors. The building was not needed, and originally Greg knew this, but apparently someone got him in a dark corner and gave him a titty twister. The taxpayers are also holding the bag on the HVAC replacement.

• Greg slipped out of ethics violations by getting the Ethics Board to play legal tricks with the charter. Greg also has violated ethics by continuing to attack his fellow councilors in private emails (I have seen them-they are nasty and childish) on FB and in public meetings.

• Greg didn’t do an extensive search for an internal auditor though the audit committee asked him to.

• But Greg’s biggest folly is supporting the Bunker Ramp. To this day, he has yet to apologize for the fiasco. He defended the developers, he defended the pricetag, and he defended both mayors on this disastrous project. Anybody who would continue to defend this is NOT fit to lead.

Like I have said before, I don’t know much about his opponent Julian, but I do know as a State Highway Patrolman (recruiter) Julian must always work with the highest level of transparency and integrity, because if he lacked these things, he would have been unemployed years ago. The best part about this choice, is that by NOT voting for Greg, we will actually get someone who is qualified.

Should the Sioux Steel TIF be rescinded?

As we have been hearing through sparse media reports, the project is on hold until 2021. What does this mean? Well, it means if it does rear it’s head next year, and that’s a big if, the project may change. This of course means the TIF would be null and void. I have encouraged councilors to rescind the TIF ASAP and get it off the books until we actually know what is going to happen.

Alex Jensen campaign misleads candidates and puts out a ‘hit’ piece on Stehly

A certain Republican blogger who lives 40 minutes north of us runs a campaign consulting and marketing business, the one he was running while working as Deputy SOS (which he had to ultimately quit because of the conflict). He apparently has been helping with marketing materials for Count Jensen. Yesterday around 40,000 (an estimate) Republicans in Sioux Falls got a mailer promoting Jensen and other Republican primary candidates. Many candidates who have advertised in the rag were told this was going to be a positive campaign mailer. They were misled. Some Republican candidates were also snubbed and not allowed to be in the mailer. Several of the candidates have actually reached out to Stehly apologizing and explaining to her how they were misled. While there are many positive stories in the mailer and ads there is a huge hit piece on Stehly. They even lied about her employment.

The sad part about this is that Stehly has been a life long Republican who essentially has been stabbed in the back by her party, mostly by that guy up north, sadly, in a non-partisan race.

If I were any of the candidates who paid to be in this piece of garbage mailer, I would ask for my money back.

I have never understood why the city races have become more and more partisan over the past few years – oh that’s right, because we continue to elect partisans.

If I was Stehly the first thing I would do next Wednesday morning is register Independent and tell the Republican party to go fly a kite!

Sioux Falls City Council Agenda, May 26, 2020

State of the City Address (Online only) • Tuesday May 26, 1 PM

Some on the council are questioning why this is only online. Just two hours after the address there will be a PUBLIC meeting at Carnegie. Heck even last Thursday the council candidate forums were open to the public. Once again, I’m pointing out the hypocrisy of our mayor who seems to be hunkered down while the rest of us are working and getting on with our lives. Heck, I even sat on a patio yesterday and had a beer and a bite to eat at one of our fine downtown eating establishments. If I could ever accuse Mayor ‘COG’ of one thing, it is how inconsistent he is on his decision making process. But this is something we should expect from a guy who wears a suit and tie when Denny’s checkbook is out and trucker hat when talking to constituents about a pandemic.

Special City Council Meeting • Tuesday May 26, 3 PM

More inconsistencies, while it is true the 4th council meeting of the month is usually considered ‘special’ what is not special about it is it should be held at it’s regular time of 7 PM. This administration has done these meetings at many different times, 10:30 AM, 2 PM, 3 PM, 4 PM, 5 PM and 6 PM. This is a backdoor way of preventing the public from showing up to testify. Even if you don’t have to work at these times, will you even know the meeting is being held? It reminds of the transit task force and their eventual plan. Nobody knows what it is, because it keeps changing. Heck, we don’t even know if it is moving forward. During a crisis, there are very simple, common sense rules all elected leaders should follow, the easiest one is consistency, this city government (not just the mayor) has failed miserably at consistency.

Also notice in this meeting, the general public input at the beginning of the meeting has been eliminated. This is not a violation of law, because they are still having public input during the items, but proves once again how much this administration HATES transparency and open government.

Item #4, 2nd Reading: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SIOUX FALLS, SD, REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 47-20 ADOPTING THE SIOUX FALLS BOARD OF HEALTH BUSINESS REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) DATED MAY 1, 2020.

So this is interesting, on one hand, they are passing an ORDINANCE (a city law) to lift the restrictions then pass a resolution (a suggestion with no legal teeth) telling people to be safe;

Item #5, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SIOUX FALLS, SD, ENCOURAGING THE PEOPLE OF SIOUX FALLS TO BE DILIGENT IN THEIR ACTIONS AND BEHAVIOR TO SLOW THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS THAT CAUSES COVID-19 AND TO PROTECT VULNERABLE POPULATIONS.

• Wash hands often;
• Take precautions every day to keep space between others (stay a minimum of 6 feet away, which is about two arm lengths);
• Keep away from people who are sick;
• Maintain an adequate supply of essential items;
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched services;
• Avoid all cruise travel and non-essential travel; and
• Call a health care professional with questions about underlying medical condition, COVID-19, or if you are sick.

Only this administration and city council would pass a law lifting restrictions why telling everyone (nicely) to restrict themselves – all in the same meeting. I know, weird.

I’m still waiting for them to pass an ordinance that requires all administrative and manager staff with the city to go back to the office.

Social Distancing? Not so much

I found this picture on FB last night, this is a line outside a popular bar in DTSF. While the restrictions are not set to lift until Tuesday, I have noticed many drinking establishments have chosen to just ignore them anyway. And why not? There are no leaders or people in authority in charge in this town. The worst part about this pandemic isn’t scenes like this, it is the total lack of leadership by our elected officials. Why implement half-baked rules with no real teeth if people are just going to ignore them anyway?
